About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Atlético Madrid secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Espanyol in their La Liga clash on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The match was a showcase of attacking prowess from both sides, with Atlético ultimately outclassing their opponents. Entering the game, Atlético were favorites, and they lived up to expectations with a dominant performance. The match began with a shock for the home side as Jofre Carreras (GAP -4.7%) put Espanyol ahead in the 6th minute. However, Atlético responded strongly, with Alexander Sørloth (GAP +2.8%) equalizing in the 21st minute. The second half saw Atlético take control, as Giuliano Simeone (GAP +3.7%) scored shortly after the break in the 49th minute. Ademola Lookman (GAP -0.5%) extended the lead in the 58th minute, showcasing his attacking flair. Sørloth added his second goal in the 72nd minute, effectively sealing the win for Atlético. Espanyol managed to pull one back through Edu Expósito in the 80th minute, but it was too little, too late. The match did not feature any red cards, allowing both teams to focus on their attacking play. Tactically, Atlético's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's form and fitness. Espanyol, on the other hand, introduced several substitutes, including Roberto Fernández, Edu Expósito, Cyril Ngonge, Ramon Terrats, and Pere Milla, in an attempt to change the game's dynamics. Marcos Llorente (GAP +7.4%) was instrumental in midfield, providing the energy and drive that helped Atlético dominate possession. Jan Oblak (GAP +5.9%) was reliable as ever in goal, ensuring that Espanyol's chances were limited. This victory solidifies Atlético Madrid's position in the upper echelons of the La Liga table, maintaining their momentum as they push for a top-four finish. Espanyol, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their defensive frailties to improve their standing in the league.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
